Installation of new computer network
In mid-2008 Dr Joyce and I decided to upgrade our IT system and move towards a centralised, paperless, server-based practice management system. We consult and operate from a number of different locations, our two main practice sites being in Bowral and Macquarie Street in Sydney. In view of our complex needs arising from multiple practice locations, we engaged medical IT specialist firm ISN Solutions to plan and execute the project. Our requirement was for a secure, encrypted and internet-based network that would link all practice sites together “real time”.
We realised that a change of this calibre to our practice would not be totally pain free and there were indeed some teething issues along the way. However, the end result has been of great significance to our business. We feel that the practice is much more efficient as a result of all our data being centralised, protected and easily accessible. Back-up of data occurs both daily and instantaneously in both onsite and offsite locations. The system requires ongoing maintenance which is carried out to an exceptional standard by the ISN Solutions team, all of whom understand a practice's (and certainly a doctor’s) needs. This gives me, the doctor, the assurance that I can focus all my energies on practicing medicine.
In short, a well-designed, well-installed and well-kept IT system has meant that I can be in touch with almost any aspect of my practice from anywhere. We can schedule and rearrange appointments, access and update records, access test results and communicate with patients and referring doctors – all from a central location. And we can do this from anywhere in the world, at any time of day.
I believe that the IT system design that ISN produced and deployed for us has been right for our business and I therefore have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone in the medical industry.

New website
Following the successful development of Dr Geoffrey Reid’s website, Kristen Lucas at NetstarterTM was commissioned to develop this sister site, still a work in progress, along with an upgrade for www.sydneyendometriosis.com.
Change of practice management program
For the last ten years, we have used CPM™ for practice management. This program was developed by Jon Phegan, and Dr Geoffrey Reid, Dr Michael Cooper and I all had considerable input into the development of this practice management software.
Changes by Microsoft™ have made this program unsustainable. We therefore looked at all the options available for alternative practice software and decided to move to Genie™ Solutions.
The transition to Genie™ Solutions occurred on 1 September 2008.
